The Dam
Międzygórze
DESCRIPTION
At the very entrance to Międzygórze, there is a dam which is accessible to tourists. Itsaved the areas located below on numerous occasions mitigating consequences of periodic floods. The reservoir was created at the beginning of the 20th century when the first 29 m high and approximately 108 m long stone dam was erected. The reservoir can store up to 1 million cubic meters of water, but during the intensive rains and flooding of 1997 the excess of water overflowed the top of the dam. The dam’s water tightness was almost compromised, which would have had tragic consequences for the entire region. Fortunately, the structure survived to be later renovated and reinforced, while tourists gained access to it - a metal footbridge suspended at the height of 30 m resembles the Sky Walk, allowing visitors to admire fantastic mountainous vistas.
The dam is located at the entrance to Międzygórze, some 200 m away from the main road on a green hiking trail leading to the Sanctuary of Mary of the Snow.
