DESCRIPTION

For many years Góra Igliczna has been a destination of excursions and pilgrimages. In the mid 18th century, a copy of the miraculous statuette of the Holy Mary of the Snow had been brought here from Maria Zell in Austria. It was placed on a tree, close to the top of Góra Igliczna. During a violent storm the tree broke, but the statuette was miraculously left untouched. It was moved down to another location where initially it was deposited in a small wooden shrine, whereas later, i.e. in 1781, the construction of a sanctuary dedicated to the Holy Mary commenced. The fame of the statuette spread like a wildfire thanks to numerous incidents of healing and grace attributed to it.

The church was remodelled on several more occasions, towers were added, as well as a vicarage, cloisters, and terraces, and the extensions finally concludedin 1882. In the years 1961- 1968, Igliczna was twice visited by Bishop Karol Wojtyła. The site and its miracles convinced him, already after his election to be the Pope John Paul II, to crown the statuette of the Holy Mary of the Snow during his second pilgrimage to Poland in 1983. Presently, the sanctuary is visited by many tourists, moreover, thanks to its special character and picturesque surroundings it is often chosen as a place for weddings and other religious ceremonies. The summit of Igliczna is a perfect panoramic point offering fantastic views of the Kłodzkie Region with its surrounding mountain ranges.

Services are held daily at 12 pm and at 12 and 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
